2008 Committees
Pastor John Ritenour is appointed to the church to participate in Christ's ministry of grace and to provide spiritual guidance and leadership to Boulder City United Methodist Church. Appointed to serve by the Desert Southwest Conference of the United Methodist Church, Pastor John is charged with performing all duties of a minister including the Sacraments of Baptism and Communion, as well as officiating at weddings and funerals.
Church Council is made up of the Committee Chairpersons and Officers of the Church. Meeting once per month or as needed, the Council approves additions and changes to the church agenda, accepts the Financial Report of the Treasurer and hears, and if necessary acts upon, presentations of each committee’s activity. Church Secretary/Publicity works directly with the Pastor and Council Chairperson. The position is responsible for the administrative duties of the church, including bulletins, media ads, newsletters, records maintenance, webpage updates and “other duties as needed”. Secretary: Sue Burkholder.
Treasurer is responsible forall financial expenditures, maintenance of financial records and adherence to the established budget. The Treasurer works with the Finance Committee and Board of Trustees to create and maintain a working budget, as well as maintaining the Church roles. Treasurer: Alberta Ellis.
Staff/Parish Committee is the oversite committee for all salaried and contracted personnel within the church. The committee meets on a regular basis and is the forum for complaints of misconduct or poor performance of duty by employees of the church. The Committee also gathers information on the performance of the pastor for submission to the District Superintendent at the Annual Charge Conference. The Chairperson of the Staff/Parish Committee is responsible for performing background checks for all employees and volunteers as mandated by Council. Chairperson: Barbara Paulsen.
Board of Trustees are the “owners” of the church proper. They are empowered to enter into agreements and contracts as directed by Council, and are responsible for obtaining and payment of taxes, insurance and all other essentials for the physical maintenance of the church. Chairman: John Sneed.
Building Committee works with the Board of Trustees to formulate plans for building and/or expansion of the physical church. The current Building Committee has been seated for the purpose of obtaining and working with an architect to realize the construction of our church, including the actual design of the church. The Building Committee was created after the Land Committee had identified and brought about the purchase of the land now owned by BCUMC. Chairperson: Bob Triolo.
Finance Committee is responsible for raising funds for the physical operation of the church. Working with the Treasurer and Board of Trustees, the Finance Committee establishes an annual working budget, and is responsible for fund-raising efforts for special needs such as the Building Fund. Lay Leadership/Nominating Committee meets annually to identify, contact and commit members of the congregation to the working committees. The Slate of Nominees is presented at the Annual Charge Conference and are elected for one year. Chairperson: Pastor John Ritenour.
Lay Leader serves as the primary lay representative of the church, and serves as liaison between the Pastor and the members of the church. The Lay Leader also develops programs designed to utilize the many gifts of the congregation. Lay Leader: Bruce Benke
Annual Conference Representative serves as the general representative of the congregation to the Desert Southwest Annual Conference held each year. The representative is a voting member of the Annual Conference and is charged with reporting the results of the Annual Conference to the local congregation. The position is currently vacant.
Fellowship Committee is made up of several subcommittees and is the foundation of church social and ministerial activities. Chairperson: Pat Benke.

Social Activities: Develops activities designed to create fellowship and social opportunities for the church family. Also responsible for scheduling and setup of Followship, the fellowship time immediately following worship. Chairperson: Diane Hernandez

Prayer Group: Meets weekly to hold in prayer those whose prayer needs have been brought to the attention of the church. Creates a written prayer list for the congregation to use. Chairperson: John Mondt.

Historian: Maintains historical records of the church. Chairperson: Faith Rodriguez.
Church Women Unite(d): Leads the women’s group in development of activities and missions. Chairperson: Kitty Ritenour.
Caring Ministry: Members of the committee are charged with visiting members of the congregation in need of special consideration. These may include homebound invalids or those in hospital care, as well as those with other special needs. Alerts the Pastor if there are members of the congregation in special need. Chairperson: John Mondt.
Christian Education Committee is made up of all Christian Education teachers and child care attendants. A Christian Education curriculum for all ages is developed by the Committee Chairperson with input from the committee members. Note: The Adult Bible Study is a separate curriculum and is developed by the ABS instructor. Chairperson: Linda Fox.
Outreach Committee is made up of several subcommittees and is responsible for establishing fellowship opportunities, social activities and missions for the congregation, both within the church setting and in the local and world community. Chairperson: Diane Hernandez.

Greeters: Members who are present to greet all those coming into church services. They are responsible for identifying new visitors, making them feel welcome and securing contact information if the visitors wish to provide it.

Greeting Cards: The committee sends greeting cards to new visitors, as well as to members who are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or other special events in their lives. Also responsible for sending cards to those who have suffered a loss. Chairperson: Linda Fox.

Needs/Missions: Identifies missions and special needs of those within our community and throughout the world. Coordinates giving opportunities and forwards goods and funds to the recipients. Chairperson: David Paulsen.

Communications: Responsible for media ads, PR opportunities, webpage maintenance and design and creation of promotional materials. Chairperson: Sue Burkholder.

Outings: Identifies and coordinates opportunities for hikes and other outdoor activities. Chairpersons: Jenn and Doug Haag.
Worship Committee is responsible for the worship experience beyond the scriptures and the Pastor’s message. Chairperson: Devin Streator.

Liturgists: Responsible for the liturgical portion of the worship service. Chairperson: Linda Robetshaw.

Music: Provides the musical portion of the worship service, including keyboard accompaniment, choir training, song leader, and special music coordination. Music Director and Song Leader: Dick Fazio. Keyboard/Choir Director: Devin Streator.

Set-up/Take-down: Sets up the Sanctuary at the Senior Center each Sunday, and takes down and stores all worship items after the service. Foreman: Fred Yamagata.

Altar Guild: Responsible for the altar setup, including flowers, candles, obtains and maintains altar cloths appropriate for the Liturgical year, and provides the Communion elements. Chairperson: Pat Benke.

Acolytes: Trains and schedules acolytes for weekly worship service. Obtains and maintains acolyte robes. Chairperson: Pat Benke.

Ushers: Seats congregants, sees that visitors are paired with members of the congregation, directs members to the Communion elements and collects the weekly offering for presentation to the Liturgist. Chairperson: Fred Yamagata.
Lay Speakers are trained in lay speaking and sanctified by the church. When certified, the Lay Speaker may conduct services of worship, preach, and lead study sessions as requested by the pastor or the district superintendent. Lay Speakers: John Mondt, Bruce Benke, Mary Caldwell.
