CWU - Church Women Unite(d)
The women's group of Boulder City United Methodist Church invites all women of the church to its monthly meetings, held the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Kitty Ritenour, 1416 Bronco Road, Boulder City.
The women's group is active in the Hats and Hands program through Las Vegas Social Ministries. Over 300 sets of hats and scarves, along with numerous additional hats, have been knitted, crocheted and woven by members and friends of our congregation since the beginning of the program. The hats and scarves are distributed throughout the Las Vegas Valley to the homeless of all ages and genders. Donations of purchased gloves and warm socks are also part of the CWU mission.
CWU started out the New Year with its annual PMS and Chocolate night in January (an evening of Popcorn, Movies and Soda to go with the Chocolate). In February, Paul and Judy Stoutenborough gave a presentation at the Senior Center about their work with Habitat for Humanity. All the people of the church were invited to attend.
Some of the future activities planned for this year by CWU include our second annual Bunco Night, a Beginning of Summer Barbeque for church families, the annual Ladies Night Out after the summer haitus, and of course, the annual Christmas Cookie Exchange in December.
These are only the social aspects of Church Women Unite(d). Along with the mission of the Hats and Hands Program, the group has sent clothes and toys to an Afghan orphanage, continues to help stuff socks for the Sidewalk Sunday program in Las Vegas, and gives--as a group and individually--to the needs of those within our community.
