Christian Education for Youth
Youth class for grades 5 through 12 meets Sunday mornings during worship, following the Message for Young Christians. It is taught by Brian Fox, a retired educator with thirty years working with both Junior and Senior high school students, and over fifteen years teaching church youth groups.
Classes include informal discussions, participatory activities, and the presentaiton of materials specifically designed for youth by highly qualified authors.
The latest series, beginning January 27, 2008, is entitled "Way to Live". When someone does a good job, we say, "Way to go!" When someone puts Christianity into practice, we say, "Way to live!" This is a series on Christian practices for tweens and teens. Is there a way to live that keeps us involved in the world around us, and at the same time enables us to live out God's plan for our lives? The lessons will help the youth find an answer to that question.
The youth class also offers occasional outings and activities beyond the Sunday morning class setting, as well as coordinating church summer camp at Mount Potosi.
Youth Confirmation Class
Confirmation classes are offered, when there is a need, for young people who are serious about becoming members of the church.
The program, entitled "Claim the Name" is twelve to fifteen weeks long, and is a highly interactive experience, designed by Joy Butcher-Winfree, an ordained Elder of the United Methodist Church and a pastor in the West Virginia Annual Conference.
Class sessions are held on a rotating basis at the homes of the young people who are participating with parents "hosting" each session.
