There are several mission opportunities that Boulder City United Methodist volunteers can participate in, either individually or through the church missions program. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact the church office at 293-7240 and leave a message for Dave Paulsen or any of the Mission Committee members. They will contact you with information about the programs and how to become involved.

Habitat for Humanity – Volunteers work to provide affordable housing for prospective homeowners who are in need of assistance. Volunteers commit to spend a set amount of time physically building a house from the ground up. Opportunities to participate are in the Las Vegas Valley and throughout the country.

Emergency Aid of Boulder City – The group collects and distributes food to individuals and families who are in need of assistance. Thanksgiving baskets, Angel Tree, and the Shoe Box are seasonal programs Emergency Aid oversees locally.

Lend A Hand is a program designed to help the elderly and chronically ill of Boulder City remain in their homes by providing a variety of services by volunteers. Services include staying with persons needing assistance so that their caregivers can 'take a break' for rest and relaxation or to attend to personal business. Other services available are helping individuals by running errands, going shopping, driving to medical appointments or by providing companion services in the home. (Volunteers do not provide home health care or housekeeping services.)

Senior Center of Boulder City – Volunteer opportunities include working in the kitchen or dining room, delivering food through the Meals on Wheels program, maintenance assistant and class or group leader for senior programs and crafts.

Community Emergency Response Team – Volunteers are trained to provide an effective first-response capability in time of local or area emergency.

United Methodist Social Ministries – Several programs are funded and administered by the United Methodist Social Ministries. Boulder City UMC coordinates local volunteer participation in these programs.
  • Weekend Emergency Assistance Program (WEAP) provides emergency food and other basic needs items to families on the weekends when other service providers were not available.
  • Angel Tree – Collects and distributes presents for underprivileged children throughout the area.
  • Hats and Hands -- Each winter this program distributes clothing items to the homeless in partnership with other agencies where homeless services are provided, such as: Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, St. Timothy's, Las Vegas Rescue Mission, University Medical Center, and others, as resources are available. BCUMC participates through knitting, crocheting and weaving hats and scarves, as well as donating gloves and mittens to the program. BCUMC has been one of the highest single contributors to this program.
