The United Methodist Centennial Church in New Albany announced that it will sell the church and surrounding properties, but that they will remain united as a congregation in a new place of worship.
The Church also works with IHN (Interfaith Hospitality Network), helping the homeless by providing and serving meals (ten times a year) on a rotational basis with other churches in the area. Additionally, Grace Church has an emergency fund that directly helps people in crisis in the community and church members. Harriett Akins-Banman, a member of the United Methodist Centennial Church in New Albany, expressed her hope that whoever buys church property will use it in a way that will continue to serve the community. She also poured ash into a container at the sanctuary of the Church to prepare for the Ash Wednesday afternoon service and oil into a container full of ashes at the sanctuary for the Ash Wednesday night service.
